The Internet of Things

The Internet of Things

Inter·net of things

noun

a proposed development of the Internet in which everyday objects have network connectivity, allowing them to send and receive data.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is essentially the ability to connect any device that has an on/off switch to the Internet — and to each other.

This includes everything from a copy machine to a thermostat, from a watch to sophisticated commercial machines to a learning lab. The IoT is a giant network of connected things: people to people, people to things and things to things. The Gartner Group states that by 2020 there will be over 26 billion connected devices; this will have a significant impact on virtually all organizations.

What does this mean for you? First and foremost, wireless connectivity will become increasingly important as more mission-critical applications rely on the Internet. The large number of Internet connections will require highly robust and secure infrastructure. It will also require a network that is completely reliable and performs on par with wired networks.

Netvious is at the forefront of IoT and will work closely with your organization to insure that you can leverage new and existing technology, devices, and information assets to capitalize on the tremendous opportunities made available by the Internet of Things.
